This bottlenose dolphin bookmark was inspired by my experiences with dolphins in the wild and at Marineland in St. Augustine, a place that played an important role in inspiring my Florida wildlife art journey.
Although I spot dolphins regularly along Florida’s waterways, they can be surprisingly difficult to photograph or study in the wild. Just when you think you’ve lined up the perfect shot, they disappear beneath the surface, only to pop up somewhere completely unexpected moments later. Spending time at Marineland gave me the opportunity to observe these intelligent, mischievous creatures up close and appreciate their playful personalities in a way that isn’t always possible from a passing glimpse in the wild.
Dolphins have come to represent some of my favorite moments along Florida’s coast. Whether it’s the excitement of seeing a dorsal fin break the surface or watching a pod glide effortlessly through the water, every encounter feels a little magical. Those experiences inspired this illustration and deepened my appreciation for the incredible wildlife that calls Florida home. This bookmark is a small tribute to the wonder these remarkable marine mammals bring to every adventure.
