Bring a Piece of Florida’s Gentle Waters With You
This baby manatee bookmark was inspired by one of my most memorable wildlife encounters in Florida—a curious young manatee I met while swimming in Crystal River.
Before that experience, I knew manatees as gentle giants, but seeing one up close was something entirely different. While many manatees seem content to drift quietly through the water, this young manatee was full of curiosity. She swam right up to our group, investigating us with the same interest we had in her. Watching her explore her surroundings with such confidence and wonder was an unforgettable experience.
That encounter gave me a deeper appreciation for these peaceful marine mammals and helped inspire my Florida wildlife art journey. Manatees have become one of the animals I most associate with Florida’s unique beauty.
